There Is a Time
September 11, 2020, 8:36 AM

This week as I met with one of our pastors, I reached over and patted him on the back.  I was surprised by his reaction.  He remarked over and over how much he appreciated that simple touch.  This year has made us reconsider many things that we previously took for granted.  Later that day, I reflected on the words of Ecclesiastes 3:5, which says, “There is a time to embrace and a time to avoid embracing.”  Because of COVID, we are in that time.  And you could add verse 4, which says, “there is a time to mourn.”  There have been many griefs and losses this year.

Yet we can’t forget that this passage goes on to say, “He has made everything beautiful in its time” (verse 11).  Our hope is not that we will one day be done with COVID and all the restrictions and losses that it has brought.  No, our hope is that the Lord is in control and He will work His good purpose through it.  He will bring beauty and goodness out of this time, and what God does “will last forever” (verse 14).  So let us thank our Father for all the staggering blessings that we have in Christ, and the countless little gifts of His grace we have every day.  Let us pray that He will use us to work beauty and love through all of this.  And let us be ready for opportunities in this challenging time to show love to one another, even if it’s a simple word of encouragement or a pat on the back.

Looking forward,

Pastor Ron Prosise
