Below are some great events, resources, and opportunities to help make 2017 an exciting, successful, and joy-filled year. If you have any questions, click the links in the pictures or shown in the text, or you can call our office M-Th, 8-1 pm, and we will be happy to help!

"Souper Bowl of Caring" - Global Hunger Relief

The Souper Bowl of Caring, a youth-led effort, has become an annual tradition in many churches across the country. On or near the Sunday of the Super Bowl football game money is collected in soup pots to help feed hungry and hurting people in local communities, and this has generated more than $60 million in funds and food since it became a national effort in 1993.

How to participate:

  • Register – Churches and youth groups can register and receive a free resource kit to help make the Souper Bowl successful.
  • Promote – Announce to the congregation that students will be collecting $1 from each person on or near Super Bowl Sunday.
  • Contribute – Collect the funds and send them to a charity of your choice such as Global Hunger Relief through the Southern Baptist Convention.
  • Report – Churches are encouraged to report their collections to the Souper Bowl of Caring or call 800-358-7687, to be counted in national totals.

Two Great Articles from Christianity Today to encourage and challenge
Losing the Weight of New Year's Resolutions

I'm not a fan of New Year's resolutions. That may be because I have a lousy track record with them, or it might be because they smell of encouragement posters and self-help books. Lee Eclov has a better plan: let God write your resolutions this year. As he reminds us, God-given resolutions "are of the 'easy yoke and light burden' variety."

The Year of Fear

Last year's news was marked by terrorist attacks, racial violence, and the most polarized election in memory. And if the first week of 2017 is anything to go by, this year may continue that trajectory. Marshall Shelley asks, What should ministry look like when most of us would rather spend the year hiding under our sheets?

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35, NIV)
